​I want to share my gratitude.


From a small creek paddle a few years ago to 1,000 members today… WMKC has grown into something truly special.


Tim Postma and I started this journey with simple paddles, and it’s turned into creek cleanups, wild portages, big adventures, and even better—new friendships along the way.


We’re beyond grateful for every single one of you who has joined club paddles, cleanups, and crazy adventures. Thank you to all who have joined West Michigan Kayaking Club—this is a special place. What an honor it’s been spending time with so many like-minded people.


I’ve met some of my best friends through this club, and I’m looking forward to meeting many more.

But for many who know and love this waterway, ladders represent only a partial solution. They say the dams must be removed entirely. Constructed in the 1850s to power a long-silent paper mill, the aging structures — one near city hall, another by Gilkey Elementary, and a third farther south — have obstructed the river’s natural flow for generations.
